Final Report transport logistic China 2008
transport logistic China 2008: Record figures evidence role as most important show for the industry in Asia
  • 11,000 visitors: 22 percent increase
  • 430 exhibitors: 43 percent increase
  • 70 Air Cargo China exhibitors: 100 percent increase
Globalization and booming business in the transport and logistics sector have been reflected in full at transport logistic China 2008 in Shanghai with more visitors, more exhibitors and a significantly higher level of Chinese participation than ever. The 3rd International Trade Fair for Logistics, Telematics and Transportation took place between 17 and 19 June 2008 at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre. It attracted 11,000 trade visitors from 66 countries and regions though the event had been shortened from four to three days. This is a rise of 22 percent compared to the last transport logistic trade fair. “These figures show that the event is now established as the most important business platform in China and Asia for the logistics industry. It addressed all the trend themes for the sector,” said Eugen Egetenmeir, Deputy Managing Director of Messe München International (MMI).

This year, the demand of space was stronger than ever. More than 430 exhibitors from 46 countries presented their services and products at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre. By comparison, at the previous event in 2006 there was a total of 302 exhibitors from 33 countries. This means more participating countries and a 43 percent increase in exhibitor numbers in 2008. The level of Chinese participation has risen strongly, by over 55 percent up to 120 exhibitors. “transport logistic China 2008 will definitely promote the communication and collaboration between foreign businesses in the logistic sectors and their Chinese counterparts”, said Qian Yongchang, Chairman of the China Communications and Transport Association (CCTA) at the Opening Ceremony of transport logistic China. “Consequently, it will further strengthen the development of Chinese logistic industry in a swift and refined way.”

Matthias von Randow, State Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Transport, Building and Urban Affairs in Germany underlined the significance of the show for the Chinese market as well: “transport logistic China illustrates the tremendous development of the international trade and globalization. Manufacturers, especially here in China, appreciate the economic benefits from the sophisticated use of modern logistics. That is why this is the most important logistics show in Asia.”

Belgium, Germany, the Netherlands, Spain and Russia presented their expertise in the sector at national pavilions. Alex Nelis, representing Holland Ports, explained: “Holland Ports handles 500 million tons yearly, which puts us in the number one position in Europe. China contributes a considerable part of this huge cargo stream. Amsterdam, Groningen and Zeeland were very happy to be present at the most important fair in Asia and we will for sure be back in 2010.” And, for the first time France, Italy and the Czech Republic staged also own joint presentations.

Air Cargo China forming part of transport logistic China also experienced a tremendous growth as the showcase of the international air cargo industry. 70 of the world’s leading airlines, airports, logistic hubs and aircraft manufacturers joined the trade fair this year. Air Cargo China 2008 has thus grown by over 100 percent compared to the 33 exhibitors in the last edition in 2006.

Air Cargo China featured also a conference section with experts, covering the latest developments and trends in air cargo, with special reference to Asia. “The conference program was a great platform for knowledge-exchange. The room nearly burst at the seams because of the enthusiastic interest from Chinese trade visitors“, said Ram Menen, CEO of Emirates Cargo from Dubai.
Additionally transport logistic China offered a three-day conference program, including a German-Chinese Symposium moderated by the Vice-Chairman of the German Logistics Association (BVL), Professor Frank Straube.

The next transport logistic China will take place from 8 to 10 June 2010 in Shanghai.
