Regione Friuli Venezia Giulia
Friuli Venezia Giulia is a maritime region, lying in
the heart of Europe. For this reason, Friuli Venezia Giulia is a
"logistic hub", which is less than 400 km away from Italy's
main economic centres (Veneto and Lombardy, with the area of Milan), and from where
important Central and Eastern European areas can be easily and quickly reached
(Bavaria, Austria, Slovenia, Croatia, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland). In
particular, the recent EU enlargement eastwards, with the creation of a single market of
450 million people, which took place on May 1st, 2004, has further facilitated
the circulation of goods with Slovenia, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Poland.
The completion of the European unification process (with the
accession of Croatia and the other countries of the Balkan area), can
give Friuli Venezia
Giulia the chance to play the role of barycentre of the European
continent, hence giving
concrete form to that idea of Euroregion which inspires its
political-administrative action. The Adriatic sea
is the route which
connects Friuli Venezia Giulia to the world, thanks to the
opportunities offered by its ports.
After overcoming the 2009 world crisis, Friuli Venezia
Giulia ports are ready to start full activity again, offering already absolutely
competitive operational and economical conditions to the streams of traffic
between the Far East and the Central-Eastern
European market, in comparison to north European ports. Friuli Venezia Giulia
ports, and the Triest port above all, are the easiest and fastest gateway linking
Europe and the Far East, through the direct routes that cross the Suez canal,
and represent the natural terminal of the "sea motorways" along the Adriatic axis.
The region of Friuli
Venezia Giulia will also participate in transport logistic China 2010 with
their own pavilion.
